The Hatch programme is an employability initiative aimed at supporting young people aged 18-25 who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). Every young person deserves a fair shot at getting their first job. The Hatch employability programme is about opening doors to young people and unlocking the life-changing power of a first job.
The number of young people (aged 16-24) who are NEET in the UK is estimated to be 987,000 reaching the highest level in the last 11 years. The Hatch Programme is delivered in partnership with KFC, it provides opportunities for young people to build their skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership. Gain paid work experience with KFC or another local employer, helping young people apply their skills in a real-world setting and transition into sustainable employment.
Hatch was established in 2022 in partnership with UK Youth
- 732 young people over the last three years
- 60-65% now in education, employment, or training three months post-programme.
- 72% of participants rated the programme highly
In 2025 Hatch will continue to be delivered in Manchester and Burnley and we will be commencing delivery in Middlesbrough from our own KFC Youth Foundation Hub

Zee's Hatch Experience
"Before the Hatch programme I was at college studying for 3 A-Levels, but it just wasn’t for me. I am someone that is more hands on and practical. The barrier for me getting into work was that I didn’t have any previous work experience, I spent over 6 months applying for jobs.
Through Hatch I learned teamwork and communication skills and how to understand people and deal with problems too. I am a Team Leader now and that means I have added responsibility and am learning how to handle stressful situations too."
